Dien Bien is a province in Northern Vietnam, located in the mountainous border region of the Northwest. Situated 504 kilometers west of the capital Hanoi, it shares its borders to the east and northeast with Son La province, to the north with Lai Chau province, to the northwest with Yunnan province (China), and to the west and southwest with Laos. This city was a battlefield between the Viet Minh Army and French Army in 1954. The result was the French in Indochina was cut and Viet Nam was divided into two parts: North and South.

Itinerary

This tour is one of the most exciting and spectacular adventure journey in Vietnam. Because the northwest is still unspoiled and is a captivating blend of dramatic landscapes and colorful hill tribes. This adventure takes you through a stunning and isolated area, which has changed little over the centuries. Also through the trip you will understand more about Vietnamese history during French war time in Vietnam.

Day 1: Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu (VN8202: 11h10-12h25)(L/D)
Our team picks you up from your hotel for the airport transfer and take the flight to Dien Bien Phu. On arrival, check into the hotel and have refreshment.
Lunch at the hotel.
In the afternoon visit Dien Bien Phu Museum.
Overnight at Dien Bien Phu.

Day 2: Dien Bien Phu Battle Filed (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel, after that visiting the strongholds protecting the northern side of the Hedgehog of Dien Bien Phu which were the targets of the first range of attacks by the Viet Minh. Recall the development of the battles at the Him Lam Hill (Beatrice), Doc Lap Hill (Gabrielle) and Ban Keo (Anne Marie). The vivid marks of the past battles certainly help to carry you back in time.

In the afternoon, visit the central zone of the Hedgehog and the strategic eastern hills & knolls taking in: The Commander Post, the A1 Hill (Eliane 2), C1, C2 and D1 Hills. These were targets of the second series of attacks by Viet Minh. Recall and analysis the course of events. Our tour also includes samples of the track that Viet Minh used for pulling the artillery into the site as well as sample locations of the former artillery sites.
Lunch and dinner at the hotel.
Overnight at Dien Bien Phu.

Day 3: Dien Bien Phu Tour – Hanoi (VN8205: 16h20-17h20) (B/L)
In the morning, after breakfast visiting the site of once Hong Cum Zone (Isabelle) protecting the hedgehog from the south and some Thai villages in the Muong Thanh Valley. Isabelle was the last stronghold to surrender to Viet Minh concluding the Dien Bien Phu Battle, then back to the hotel for check-out and lunch.
Free time until our team transfers you back to the airport for the return flight to Hanoi.
